red squirrel of North America

This website is dedicated to the red squirrel of North America. It is designed for adults and older students. More than 30 million Americans enjoy watching small mammals, mainly members of the squirrel family. If you also enjoy watching small mammals, then this website if definitely for you. Not only will you learn about the red squirrel, but also how to find and observe them in your yard, nearby woods, or a vacation destination.

While big animals like bear, moose, and deer are on everyone’s list to see, they are very difficult to observe. In contrast, the small mammals are very easy to observe, and just like many songbirds can be found almost anywhere. As such, they are perfect subjects for wildlife watching.

The site has these parts: “Ecology” describes the behavior and ecology of the red squirrel, “Photos” has pictures of the red squirrel, and “Resources” lists books, DVDs, and other resources for further exploration of the red squirrel and other members of the squirrel family.

For a quick view of squirrels, try “Photos”. For detailed information, go to “Ecology”.

This site has been created by a Vermont college instructor who taught ecology and animal behavior courses for several decades. He has also observed red squirrels for many years.

Enjoy the site!
